1.3.4 IDL VM

OPTIONAL: How to Download and Install the IDL VM

The IDL Virtual Machine (VM) is designed to provide IDL users with a simple, no-cost method for distributing IDL applications. It runs on all IDL supported platforms, and does not require a license to run. TORTOISE has a precompiled version of the IDL VM included in the download, and it is not necessary to download and install the VM separately.

  1. Visit the ITT website
    • Click on the Downloads → Product Download
  2. Select the IDL Virtual Machine option
  3. ITT requires you to register for an account to download the virtual machine. Follow their instructions to create an account.
  4. Log In with your ITT username and password. Download the appropriate version for your operating system. TORTOISE is compatible with the most up to date version as of January 2012, version 8.1.
  5. Follow the instruction provided by the installer to complete your installation of the IDL virtual machine.

DIFF_CALC is a stand-alone IDL application that can be run on any Linux or intel based Mac OS X computer containing the IDL VM or a licensed copy of IDL.
